Is the Physical Education National Curriculum just doing a circuit?
A comparison of the first physical education National Curriculum in 1992 to the most recent curriculum of 2014.
2014 National Curriculum for Physical Eduation
Following the 1992 National Curriculum, which saw the beginning for standardisation throughout schools in physical education lessons, it was followed by three amendments to this National Curriculum, before the most recent adaptation which was released in 2014.
The ideology for a National Curriculum, privatisation and standardisation was introduced in 1988 with the education reform act, under Margaret Thatcher and a conservative government. The 1992 National Curriculum was introduced under John Major and a conservative government, Major adapted the original National Curriculum in 1995. The Labour government came into power in 1997 and a new National Curriculum was introduced in 2000 under Tony Blair, who believed that his three main priorities were "Education. Education. Education", this was again adapted by Blair in 2007, although Gordon Brown was in chair when it was published.
The most recent National Curriculum was introduced in September 2014, under David Cameron and a coalition government of conservative and liberal democrat’s government.
Right, Reena Keeble, a headteacher, talks about the new national curriculum in general, not specifically to physical education.
